Postojna Cave & Predjama Castle
Explore Magnificent Underworld – World Famous Attraction
Your tour takes you across the Italian border on a one-hour ride to neighboring Slovenia where you will visit the world famous Postojna Cave located in Karst Region and Predjama Castle. This is unique opportunity to explore the subterranean filled with natural surprises. Enter the mysterious, more then 20 km long Karst-cave system with its great underground galleries and halls. Magnificent cavernous halls with impressive sculptures and their colors will take your breath away. A part of the visit will be made by electric train, and a part as a guided walking tour. The visit of the cave lasts approximately an hour and half. The temperature in the cave is around 10°C/50ºF. So, walking shoes and jacket are recommended.
Just a stone’s throw away is the Predjama Castle. Perched high atop a cliff and only accessible from one side, this stunning castle truly commands the surrounding countryside. It was a former hideout for the bold knight Erazem of Predjama, a “robber baron” and the subject of a romantic and beautiful legend. The current fortress is a Renaissance castle begun in 1583, but evidence indicates that this steep and imposing cliff has been fortified since at least the 13th century. Following your visit time at the castle and some free time outside, you will return towards Trieste.
